Herkenrode Abbey Cister

Herkenrode Cister is one of only 23 official Belgian abbey beers and the winner of the 2018 AIBA awards Bronze Medal. It’s a pleasant, crisp, clear, dry blonde with 6.5% abv. Cister is an all-natural beer, made using only malted barley, Saaz hops, water, yeast and herbs grown on the grounds of the Herkenrode abbey itself, a monastery founded in 1182 by Cistercian nuns who began brewing beer soon after. Today the beers of the Herkenrode abbey are the only beers created at an all-female abbey and still available today. The beer is made using the original medieval recipes of the monastery.
