When some buddies from California reached out about not only coming to our Woodstock beer fest to pour, but also to brew a collaboration, I knew exactly what direction we needed to go! The Reserve Society from The Bruery in Orange County, California was among the first beer memberships I heard of and joined, and having those huge barrel aged monstrosities from far out west was such a craft beer treat! The likes of Black Tuesday, Chocolate Rain, Grey Monday, and others were imprinted on my tastes from very early in my craft beer journey. So, when they reached out, we set out together to brew a New Groove Stout inspired by the high gravity process key to The Bruery's classic huge Stouts, and adjuncted with our interpretation of the Grey Monday flavors. Aged for 28 months in 12+Yr. Willett Family Estate barrels, then dosed with an irresponsible amount of house roasted hazelnuts, Papua New Guinea and Ugandan whole vanilla beans, and Tanzanian cocoa nibs.
